I recently learned that JOOST is trying to recreate itself (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10033798-2.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20) and many others do. http://www.comozap.com is trying to follow and revamp Linkedin or XING by offering a stylish AJAX driven SAP consultant market space. Are lessons well learned? IMHO startups get stuck, once they try to be extra-ordinary and do the "cover-it-all". Co-operation and mashing up different services into one would be more nice: No Google Browser, no another YouTube-look-alike, but a good combination of different services with a single login and mix-up in your favourite browser.
Or maybe "SPORE" for the internet: Start as a number of cells, grow, recombine, learn, teach and create something new?!
